Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England

DRAMATURG

In this academic sex comedy, playwright Madeleine George reframes the traditional narrative of sitcoms by placing three intelligent, queer women center stage. Because the story is set in a town much like Amherst, MA and is influenced by comedic traditions ranging from Shakespeare to Friends, I experimented with ways to physically immerse the actors in the world of the play and turn theories into concrete material they could use. I was also able to contextualize the generation gap between the women through an examination of the different waves of feminism. The play itself engages with higher-planes of thought, so I created my dramaturgical materials to match.
